Late updates: Brussels
Last week was rough. Not only did I do very poorly on an exam, I was fighting a cold. Atleast, I hope it was the cold, but now I am over it. After my exam on Friday, I ran to catch the Eurostar to Brussels. The Eurostar is amazing. I wish they had a Eurostar in the United States. It was clean, efficient and really fast. Unlike flights, where you have to leave the city to catch the flight, the Eurostar left from a station in the middle of London into the middle of Brussels. It also only took two hours, and before I knew it, I was in Brussels.
The other amazing fact, was that it was so much warmer in Brussels. I was resigned to the fact that Europe is cold. But, no, it’s just England. As soon as we got out of the tunnel on the other side, it was bright and clear. It was also pretty warm in Brussels and it almost felt like summer.
Brussels is nice. The weather was nice and the beer and chocolate was very good. It is also possibly the most diverse place I have been to in a long time. Everyone was speaking a different language and orginally from different areas of the world. It makes you wonder how a diverse place is so peaceful and functions properly. The most interesting thing I saw was the statue of Manneken Pis, which is a little boy peeing. In the stores, you can buy different colored chocolates shaped like him. There are different stories around the “legend” of Manneken Pis, but I have a feeling someone just thought it would be funny to have a fountain of a little boy peeing. I guess, the Belgians have a sense of humor.
